Lisa Pressman: Artist, Mentor, and Educator

My journey as an artist began early, surrounded by creative energy and the tactile beauty of materials. As a teenager, I was introduced to pottery, which sparked my curiosity about transformation—how raw materials could become something entirely new through exploration and process. This fascination deepened during my undergraduate studies, where I transitioned from ceramics to painting, discovering the power of layering, abstraction, and mark-making. That shift laid the foundation for my lifelong pursuit of art as both an expressive language and a space for discovery.

For over four decades, my work has been deeply rooted in curiosity, process, and emotional exploration. I see painting as an excavation—uncovering layers of memory, intuition, and feeling through color, texture, and materiality. My practice incorporates techniques such as layering, and stitching, engaging with the unpredictability of materials to create work that is both personal and universal. My paintings have been exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide, finding their place in private and public collections.

But beyond the studio, I am just as passionate about teaching as I am about creating. As an educator and mentor, I have guided countless artists through their own creative evolutions—helping them refine their voices, push past creative blocks, and build cohesive, meaningful bodies of work. My approach is intuitive and deeply personalized, meeting artists where they are and challenging them to go further. I believe in the power of process-driven discovery, where risk-taking leads to artistic breakthroughs and self-trust replaces hesitation.

Through international workshops, mentorship programs, and one-on-one guidance, I help artists uncover their true potential—not by imposing a formula, but by fostering the confidence to experiment, explore, and embrace their unique artistic path. Whether in my own practice or in my teaching, I bring an empathetic, supportive, and experience-driven approach to everything I do. Because at its core, art isn’t just about technique—it’s about uncovering something deeper, something only you can create.

Let’s find that together.

“I love teaching this class. It is freeing to discover how materials and process can play a crucial role in helping artists discover their unique visual language.” ~ Lisa

"Lisa creates a space where artists can explore without fear. Her approach is both supportive and challenging, allowing me to break through creative blocks and develop work that is authentic and deeply personal." – Sue J.

My Practice

My practice is rooted in curiosity and emotional expression, often incorporating rituals like layering, burning, and stitching. I describe my process as an “excavation,” uncovering hidden emotions and histories through paint. My work has been exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide, and I have become a sought-after mentor known for my ability to inspire and transform my students.

My teaching philosophy emphasizes exploration and discovery. I believe in meeting artists where they are and helping them uncover their authentic voice. Whether through my workshops, mentorships, or my own practice, I bring a warm, empathetic, and insightful approach to everything I do.
